PowerOptions Prepares for the Future with Leadership Transition
Heather Takle to Pass the Baton to Tina Bennett
BOSTON, MA – January 3 – PowerOptions, the leading energy buying consortium for nonprofits and public entities, announces a planned leadership transition. Current CEO Heather Takle will step down as Chief Executive Officer on June 30, 2025, after five years of transformative leadership. Tina Bennett, a longtime PowerOptions Board Member and Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, will join PowerOptions as Chief Strategy Officer in January 2025 and assume the role of CEO on July 1, 2025.

Heather is stepping down as CEO after five successful years, giving PowerOptions the unique opportunity to undertake a carefully managed transition to a new CEO who has a deep, long-term relationship with PowerOptions, our Members, and our mission. This intentional six-month overlap ensures a seamless and comprehensive knowledge transfer between Heather and Tina, maintaining the organization’s commitment to continuity and evolution in serving nonprofits’ holistic energy and decarbonization needs.
“I am grateful to have had the opportunity to serve PowerOptions’ Members and our mission,” said Heather Takle. “While I couldn’t be prouder of the incredible strides and evolution we have made and would love to carry on in the mission, this is the right time for PowerOptions to enter its next phase of growth and impact.”
Heather’s accomplishments over the last five years include strengthening the team to serve Members in new and innovative ways and diversifying the financial foundation to expand PowerOptions’ reach and impact. Under her leadership, PowerOptions expanded its offerings to include advisory services, advanced data analytics, building decarbonization planning and implementation, and fleet electrification planning and procurement. The organization also launched a groundbreaking Virtual Power Purchase Agreement (VPPA) program for wind and solar projects.
“Heather’s tenure has been nothing short of transformational,” said Janet Gail Besser, PowerOptions Board Chair. “She has positioned PowerOptions as a leader in decarbonization for nonprofits, and we are grateful for her efforts to lay the groundwork, along with her courage and strategic vision to ensure our continued success. Building on that foundation, we are incredibly excited to bring Tina’s leadership experience and capabilities into the day-to-day mission for the PowerOptions’ team and nonprofits we serve.”
Tina Bennett’s long-standing connection to PowerOptions and distinguished career in the energy sector make her uniquely positioned to lead the organization into its next chapter. As President and CEO of CMC Energy Services, she led the growth strategy that transitioned the company from regional to national, and while president and COO of Conservation Services Group (acquired by CLEAResult), she oversaw a period of tremendous advancement, building their team’s capability to support innovation, growth, and improved service delivery. Tina’s collaborative leadership style and her ability to build strong relationships with clients, partners, and stakeholders have been key to her success, and she has consistently championed initiatives that align with PowerOptions’ mission, ensuring affordability, resilience, and sustainability for a wide range of stakeholders.

“I am honored to step into this role and continue the incredible work that Heather has led over the past five years,” said Tina Bennett. “PowerOptions’ commitment to its Members—providing innovative, cost-effective, and sustainable energy solutions—will remain steadfast. As we build on this foundation, I look forward to expanding our services to continue to meet the evolving needs of nonprofits and public entities.”
PowerOptions remains committed to its mission to reduce the cost, carbon, and complexity of energy for nonprofits and public entities through electric and natural gas supply, solar, decarbonization planning and implementation, and fleet electrification. These services will continue to grow and evolve under Tina’s leadership, ensuring Members’ needs are met while new offerings are developed to address emerging challenges and opportunities in the energy landscape.
The organization also reaffirms its status and commitment as a certified woman-run non-profit.
