At PowerOptions, we understand that every dollar saved on energy is another dollar that can be reinvested into your mission.

Our mission is clear: to empower nonprofits and the public sector with solutions to reduce the cost, carbon, and complexity of energy, so YOU can focus resources on YOUR communities and constituents. From solar energy adoption to a holistic range of renewable practices, we’re here to guide your organization toward a future where sustainability meets success.

What makes our solar program different?

PowerOptions takes the guesswork and hassle out of solar – no pressure and no hard sell. We sit on your side of the table when working with the developer, and we look out for your interests throughout the entire process. Our Members benefit from competitive procurement, options for any type of project, different ownership models, and maximized savings.

Our solar energy program has been designed around the needs of our members. Here’s what’s included:

  • Zero upfront costs – We eliminate capital costs using Power Purchase Agreements, all available state and federal incentives reflected in your low price.
  • Expertise and guidance – Our developer works with you to identify the most advantageous solar opportunities: carport, rooftop, ground-mount, or off-site.
  • Installation, ownership, operation, and maintenance of solar panels – Once the location is decided, our developer takes on all the responsibilities of your solar panels.
  • Pre-negotiated PPA – Our pre-negotiated Power Purchase Agreement has a fixed per kWh price locked in for twenty years.
  • Easy Access for Public Entities – Public Entities in Massachusetts may participate without conducting individual procurement (MGL Chap. 164, Sec. 137).
  • Industry Expertise – We have decades of experience working with schools, colleges, housing authorities, municipalities, and other types of nonprofits and public entities.

Our Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) help nonprofits to go green and save money. We do this by leveraging the buying power of the largest energy consortium in New England for nonprofits and the public sector. Here’s how it works:

  • PowerOptions conducts a robust competitive procurement to select a solar developer.
  • The developer owns the solar array and pays for and manages construction, and all ongoing maintenance and operations.
  • Energy generated from the solar array is sold back to the nonprofit by the developer.
  • As a private company, the developer benefits from state and federal tax incentives offered for solar projects–from which nonprofits and public entities are otherwise unable to benefit.
  • These tax savings are monetized in the low price for electricity the developer sells back to the nonprofit, which are typically much lower than market or utility rates.
  • The price is fixed for the duration of the term, usually 20 years, providing budget certainty and hedging against future energy price increases.
