PowerOptions sends “Peak Alerts” on the mornings of predicted peak days to help Members manage their electricity usage.

Every year the Local Distribution Companies (LDCs) assign customers an Installed Capacity Tag, or ICAP Tag, which is based on a customer’s electricity usage during the peak demand hour of the previous year, usually a very hot summer day. ICAP Tags are incorporated into suppliers’ pricing, but the impact varies by Member as it’s based on a specific level of activity at the time of peak. If a Member lowers their usage during the peak hour, they can reduce their ICAP Tag and overall cost of power.
